Not 1 trillion, but '1 trillion dollars'... The place where a fundraising campaign was launched to buy 'land'

After Trump's Push to Buy Greenland
Satirical Campaign in Denmark Mocks Territorial Ambitions

Amid U.S. President Donald Trump's expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, a Danish territory, a campaign mocking Trump's territorial ambitions is spreading in Denmark. On the 11th (local time), The Guardian and other foreign media reported that a 'Buy California' online petition movement has recently emerged in Denmark. The petition aims to raise $1 trillion (approximately 1,454 trillion won) to acquire California, the most populous state in the U.S. With a goal of 500,000 signatures, more than 200,000 people have joined so far.

The petition states, "Have you ever looked at a map and suddenly thought, 'Denmark needs more sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates'?" and adds, "There is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream come true," proposing, "Let's buy California from Donald Trump!" The petition also adopts a slogan inspired by Trump's campaign motto 'MAGA' (Make America Great Again), calling to "Make California Great Again."

The petition started as a satire of President Trump's intention to purchase Greenland, a Danish territory. On the petition website, it says, "Unlike Denmark, California enjoys sunshine 300 days a year. Imagine wearing slippers instead of boots," "Let's rename Disneyland to Hans Christian Andersen Land, after the world-famous Danish fairy tale author, and make Mickey Mouse wear a Viking helmet," and "California produces 90% of America's avocados. You can enjoy avocado toast to your heart's content," filled with mocking descriptions.

Additionally, the petition outlines 'Reasons why Trump should sell California.' It states, "Honestly, Trump doesn't like California that much. He called California 'the most broken state in the union' and has had conflicts with California leaders for years," and adds, "We are confident that if offered the right price, Trump will gladly hand over California."

Comments left by participants in the petition also contain various mocking remarks. One citizen, under the name 'Viking,' responded, "Our ancestors sailed the seas to find new lands, but we can conquer California without drawing swords. All we need is a wallet." Furthermore, there were satirical remarks suggesting that if California were acquired, Disneyland's name would be changed to 'Hans Christian Andersen Land,' after the famous Danish fairy tale author, and Mickey Mouse might wear a Viking helmet.

Meanwhile, President Trump has advocated purchasing Greenland since his first term, causing diplomatic tensions with Denmark. After winning re-election, Trump has recently renewed his interest in Greenland. In response, M?te Egede, Greenland's Prime Minister, stated, "Greenland is not for sale," expressing opposition. The Danish government also firmly rejected any idea of selling Greenland to the U.S.
