Same Legal Effect as the Physical Resident Registration Card
Jinan County in North Jeolla Province will officially begin issuing mobile resident registration cards at 11 local administrative welfare centers starting from the 14th.
According to the county on the 12th, the mobile resident registration card has the same legal effect as the physical resident registration card, allowing it to be used freely both online and offline. It also offers the advantage of convenient identity verification without the need for a wallet.
Any resident of the county can have a mobile resident registration card issued at any of the 11 administrative welfare centers. From the 28th of next month, applications can be made in person at any center nationwide, regardless of registered address.
To obtain a mobile resident registration card, the "Korea Mobile ID" app must be installed on the applicant's own mobile phone. The issuance method can be chosen between using an IC resident registration card or a QR code.
The IC resident registration card is a physical card that can be issued by selecting the "IC (integrated circuit) chip embedded" option when applying for a new or replacement resident registration card.
For QR code issuance, you can visit a community center and scan the QR code for mobile resident registration card issuance, allowing for immediate issuance upon application. However, if you change your phone or delete the app, you must revisit the community center to reissue the mobile resident registration card.
A county official stated, "The introduction of the mobile resident registration card is expected to greatly enhance convenience for residents," and added, "We will continue to expand smart administration to minimize inconvenience for residents."
