Arrested for posting threatening messages
A man dissatisfied with the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested after posting a message saying he would "set fire to the Constitutional Court."
On the 11th, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced that they had arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of threats. The court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A, citing concerns that he might flee.
Mr. A is accused of posting a message titled "Nothing else needed. Just set fire to the Constitutional Court" on the online community DC Inside's US Politics gallery on the 19th of last month using his computer. A citizen reported the post to the police by calling 112 after seeing it online, prompting an investigation. The police quickly identified the author through IP tracking and arrested Mr. A at his residence on the 8th.
During the police investigation, Mr. A admitted to the crime and stated that he was angry about the impeachment trial process against President Yoon. A police official said, "We plan to conduct strict investigations into similar threatening posts in the future."
