Yongin City Advances Timing for Forming Resident Council in Housing Environment Improvement Project

From Plan Review and Construction to the Maintenance Planning Stage
Residents' Opinions to Be Reflected Through Monthly Regular Meetings

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to form and operate a resident council from the initial stage of establishing maintenance plans when promoting residential environment improvement projects.

On the 12th, Yongin City announced that this policy was established to actively reflect residents' opinions in residential environment improvement projects and to minimize conflicts during the project process.

Yongin City Advances Timing for Forming Resident Council in Housing Environment Improvement Project

The residential environment improvement project is aimed at expanding essential infrastructure such as parking lots, parks, community facilities, and roads to provide a pleasant living environment for residents living in aging old downtown areas. Unlike redevelopment focused on complete demolition, this urban maintenance project maintains the existing residential forms while equipping necessary infrastructure.

Previously, it was difficult to reflect residents' opinions because feedback was collected only after the maintenance plan was established during the basic plan review stage or residents' briefings, or the resident council was formed after construction began. Accordingly, the city decided to form a resident council consisting of about five resident representatives, including village chiefs and heads of organizations, from the stage of starting the maintenance plan service, and to collect residents' opinions through monthly regular meetings.

Earlier, the city has been piloting a resident participation group in Kimryangjang 1 District, where the maintenance plan service for the residential environment improvement project started in July last year. The city also plans to form resident councils simultaneously with the start of the service for ▲ Mapyeong 2 District (226-2 Mapyeong-dong) ▲ Gorim 2 District (794-29 Gorim-dong) ▲ Mabuk 1 District (295-4 Mabuk-dong), which are scheduled to begin the maintenance plan service next month.

A city official said, "If residents directly participate in improving the village environment, it will not only raise their sense of belonging but also create a more convenient and pleasant environment," adding, "We will do our best to provide citizens with a better residential environment and enhance the reliability of administration."
