Applications Accepted at Agricultural and Horticultural Cooperatives Until the 28th
Jeollanam-do announced on the 12th that applications for crop disaster insurance for four types of fruit?apples, pears, sweet persimmons, and astringent persimmons?will be accepted until the 28th.
Crop disaster insurance is a system that supports 90% of the insurance premium to help recover from crop damage and stabilize management caused by natural disasters such as typhoons or hail.
By enrolling these four types of fruit in disaster insurance, farmers can be protected not only from typhoons, hail, earthquakes, and fires, but also from frost damage and sunburn, among other natural disasters.
In particular, starting this year, the coverage method for these four types of fruit has been expanded from the previous system?which covered all natural disasters before fruit thinning and specific disasters after thinning?to now include all natural disasters such as heat waves until harvest. Newly introduced varieties, cultivation types, and farming techniques, such as multi-leader apple cultivation, have also been added to the coverage.
The insurance premium rates have been subdivided from 9 to 15 categories according to each individual's disaster risk and efforts to prevent natural disaster damage. For apples and pears, the insurance premium discount rate for installing wind machines or micro-sprinkler systems has been increased from the previous 20% to 25%.
Farmers wishing to enroll in the insurance can do so at their local agricultural cooperatives or horticultural cooperatives.
Yoo Deokgyu, head of the Food and Horticulture Division of Jeollanam-do, said, "Crop disaster insurance is the minimum safety net against unexpected agricultural disasters, so I hope many farmers will actively enroll."
Meanwhile, in Jeollanam-do last year, 7,093 farms enrolled 5,089 hectares of these four types of fruit in the insurance, receiving 15.1 billion won in insurance payouts, which greatly helped stabilize the management of affected farms.
