Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 12th that it will participate in the 'Racing Car·Slick Tire Class' of the 'Attack Tsukuba 2025' competition with the Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec.
The Tsukuba Circuit, where the event will be held on the 15th, has been the venue for the 'Attack Tsukuba' time attack racing competition since 1994. Unlike races where multiple vehicles compete simultaneously, time attack racing determines rankings based on the fastest lap time.
The 'Ioniq 5 N TA Spec' is a vehicle designed to realize the maximum performance of the Ioniq 5 N with minimal modifications necessary for racing, while maintaining the core production car body and motor.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec has increased the rear motor output to 37 horsepower (PS) through software tuning, enhancing the combined output to 687 PS. It is equipped with new shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes, and Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires with an 18-inch rim diameter, and is designed with a unique high downforce aerodynamic package.
Notably, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec set a new record of 9 minutes 30.852 seconds at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb held in the United States in June 2024, achieving class victory and a new record in the electric modified vehicle category.
Hyundai Motor Company is collaborating with popular Japanese racer Taniguchi Nobuteru as the driver of the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec to set a new EV record. Taniguchi Nobuteru is a driver who has set records multiple times in Super GT and various Japanese motorsport competitions. He also holds four historical records in the 'Attack Tsukuba' competition.
Hyundai aims to challenge the electric vehicle record once again at 'Attack Tsukuba 2025.' Based on excellent technology, the goal is to showcase Hyundai’s technological prowess not only to the Japanese market but also to global customers. A Hyundai official stated, "This is an opportunity to widely promote Hyundai’s excellent technology to Japanese car enthusiasts," adding, "Hyundai N will continue to pursue new challenges in the future."
