Shin Sujeong, Chairperson of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Buk-gu 3), announced on the 12th that a 'Policy Forum on Establishing a Market and Commercial District Promotion System in Gwangju' was held on the afternoon of the 11th in the main conference room on the 4th floor of the city council.

This forum was organized to seek systematic and professional comprehensive support for small business owners and traditional markets, in response to the shrinking of local commercial districts and the worsening management conditions faced by self-employed individuals.

The policy forum was chaired by Shin Sujeong, with presentations by Lim Jin, former Director of the Gyeonggi-do Market and Commercial District Promotion Agency, and panel discussions by Kim Jaebok, former representative of the 1918 Songjeong Station Market Merchants Association, Jeon Youngbok, Director of Economic Policy at Gwangju City, and Hong Seokgi, Director of the Seo-gu Small Business Management Support Center in Gwangju.

Lim Jin, who gave the main presentation, explained suggestions for establishing a market and commercial district promotion system in Gwangju and shared key projects of the Gyeonggi-do Market and Commercial District Promotion Agency.

Lim Jin emphasized, "It is crucial to have a dedicated organization and human resources to directly address the increasingly difficult situation of local economies," and added, "Through the establishment of the Gwangju Market and Commercial District Promotion Agency, projects such as fostering local communities and managing local currency should be systematically promoted."

The experts participating in the discussion proposed various opinions for revitalizing traditional markets and local commercial districts, including the current status of small businesses and commercial districts in Gwangju, the role and necessity of intermediary support organizations, the discovery of practical policies, and the expansion of local currency and digital transformation projects.

Chairperson Shin stated, "To support the revitalization of traditional markets and local commercial districts, research on the activation of urban commercial districts in Gwangju should be promoted in cooperation with the city and district governments," and added, "A dedicated organization should be established to discover effective policy projects such as digital transformation and local currency for the promotion of market and commercial districts."
