Including Funeral Support

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha) is expanding welfare benefits for veterans. The district announced on the 12th that starting this year, it will increase the veterans' allowance and subsidies for veterans' organizations for residents living in the district compared to the previous year, and plans to support new veterans' events and funeral services.

Dongjak-gu Strengthens Honors with 'Longevity Celebration Fund' for National Veterans

First, the monthly ‘Veterans' Honor Allowance’ and ‘Welfare Allowance for Spouses of War Veterans’ will be increased from 60,000 won to 70,000 won each, and the ‘Consolation Money’ paid during Lunar New Year, Chuseok, and Veterans Month (June) will be raised from 30,000 won to 50,000 won.

In particular, the ‘Increase in Veterans' Honor Allowance,’ a pledge of the 8th local government administration, has seen the support scale repeatedly expanded since the early term increase from 30,000 won to 50,000 won. New applications for veterans' allowances can be submitted by visiting the local community service center, and existing veterans will automatically receive the increased allowance without separate application.

Additionally, for the first time nationwide, a ‘Longevity Celebration Fund’ will be established to provide 100,000 won at the end of the birth month to veterans who turn 80, 90, or 100 years old. The budget for subsidies to veterans' organizations (operating expenses, project expenses, etc.) will also be increased by 15.8% compared to the previous year, with support expected to approach an average of 20 million won per organization this year.

To cultivate veterans' awareness among residents, the district will newly hold a ‘Memorial Ceremony for the Month of Patriots and Veterans’ in June. Support will also continue for condolence money (200,000 won) for deceased veterans and funeral services (funeral supplies, personnel, etc. worth about 200,000 won).

Mayor Park Ilha said, “It is the nation's duty to provide the highest respect and appropriate veterans' benefits to those who have devoted themselves to the country,” adding, “As Dongjak-gu is known as the ‘Land of Loyalty and Filial Piety,’ we will take even more meticulous care to provide practical help to the lives of veterans.”
