The 2nd Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Past Affairs (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) made a decision to ascertain the truth regarding the 'Incident of Victims by Hostile Forces in Hwasun, Jeonnam' that occurred immediately after the outbreak of the Korean War.
On the 11th, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission held its 97th meeting and announced that it had made a decision to ascertain the truth about the incident in Hwasun, Jeonnam, where 119 civilians (90 cases) were victimized by hostile forces such as the People's Army, local leftists, and partisans.
At that time, one family moved to Damyang, Jeonnam, to escape the military and police's anti-partisan operations, but in December 1950, after going to Hwasun, where their main residence was located, to get food supplies, they were victimized by hostile forces on their way home, according to the investigation.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission also made decisions to ascertain the truth regarding similar incidents that occurred around the same time in other parts of the Jeonnam region and recommended that the state and local governments officially apologize to the victims and their families.
