Damyang County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byeongno) announced on the 11th that it operates the "Youth Companion" program every year to support local youth experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties.
The program, operated by the Damyang County Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, helps foster healthy growth and independence for youth by connecting them with relevant organizations, taking into account local characteristics and the individual and environmental factors of the youth.
Experts participate to support youth facing not only mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, but also potential crises including academic and career concerns, school maladjustment, running away from home, and delinquency.
Last year, through the Youth Companion program, the county identified 78 at-risk youth, supported 102 crisis cases, provided 25 high-risk youth with referrals, delivered 3,589 support services including psychological, housing, protection, care, childcare, safety, activity, basic, and daily life support, conducted 7 outreach group counseling sessions, and provided follow-up management program support for 11 individuals.
Center Director Son Euna said, "We will continue to actively operate the Youth Companion program this year to help address the various concerns and problems experienced by youth," adding, "We will spare no effort to support our local youth so they can nurture their dreams and hopes and grow into healthy members of society."
