On the 11th, Jeollanam-do requested support for loss compensation and measures to restore local tourism demand for the Jeollanam-do travel industry at a meeting of the travel industry in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions, presided over by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon.
The meeting, held at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, was attended by the Director of Tourism and Sports of Jeollanam-do, the Head of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters of Gwangju City, officials from related organizations such as the Korea Tourism Organization, and representatives from nine travel agencies, with a total of about 30 participants.
During the meeting, participants discussed support measures for the local travel industry and strategies to revitalize regional tourism, and listened to suggestions from related organizations and the travel industry.
The province requested efforts to restore local tourism demand through loss compensation funds to cover the actual damages of local travel agencies, special promotions such as accommodation sale festivals, support for domestic and international tourism expo promotions, and the hosting of large-scale events such as international conferences in the region.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expressed its intention to: provide special loans from the Tourism Promotion and Development Fund for the Jeonnam and Gwangju travel industry; support liability insurance enrollment and premiums for directly affected travel agencies; operate special regional programs with the Korea Tourism Organization to encourage travel to Jeonnam and Gwangju; and carry out various promotional activities to attract foreign visitors.
Yoo Hyeonho, Director of Tourism and Sports of Jeollanam-do, stated, "We will continue to communicate with the local tourism industry and work with central government agencies to devise support measures that the travel industry can truly feel."
Meanwhile, Jeollanam-do has provided promotional marketing support of 3 million won each to 639 local travel businesses to help restore regional tourism. Through the Jeollanam-do Tourism Promotion Fund, the province has prioritized travel agencies for loans, extended the grace period for operating funds by two years, and increased the loan limit. The scale of management stabilization funds for interest support for small and medium-sized businesses has also been expanded from 500 billion won to 650 billion won.
