Naju City in Jeollanam-do is strengthening solidarity and cooperation with relocated public institutions in the Innovation City to recover the struggling local economy and promote mutual growth.
According to Naju City on the 11th, the city has been discussing cooperative measures through regular communication and meetings, starting with a meeting of executives from relocated public institutions and a local economy revitalization campaign held on the street in front of KEPCO KDN ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday last January.
Last month, Mayor Yoon Byungtae of Naju visited the heads of Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), Korea Teachers’ Pension, KEPCO KDN, and Korea Internet & Security Agency to discuss key issues such as the recovery of the local economy and the discovery of new growth engines for the region.
In early February, Mayor Yoon also held a meeting at the Local Food Experience Culture Center with Hong Moonpyo, president of aT, and the heads of seven relocated public institutions, where he requested cooperation on projects for economic recovery and introduced new local cuisine to be featured at the center this year, including Moksa Bapsang (Eopaljinmi and Sopaljinmi).
On the 4th, he met with members of Gwangjeonnohyeop, the labor union council of relocated public institutions, to share opinions on ways to revitalize the local economy, such as encouraging the use of commercial districts in Bitgaram-dong, which are highly dependent on public institution consumption, and improving residential conditions in the Innovation City.
Thanks to these efforts, KEPCO KDN, Korea Power Exchange, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, and Korea Rural Economic Institute have purchased Naju Love Gift Certificates worth 80 million KRW this year, using them for donations to vulnerable groups and internal rewards, and have pledged to continue purchases to support the local commercial sector.
Mayor Yoon said, "I am grateful for the warm-hearted efforts of relocated public institutions in the Innovation City who are taking the lead in sharing with the local community and supporting the recovery of the local economy."
