Meeting with Representatives and Executives of 17 Major Food Companies
"We Will Help Reduce Cost Burdens by Expanding Tariff Quotas"
On the 11th, Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, met with representatives and executives of domestic food companies and urged them to "minimize factors causing price increases and join the government's price stabilization policy stance."
On the same day, Minister Song held a meeting with representatives and executives from 17 major food companies including CJ CheilJedang, SPC Samlip, Namyang Dairy Products, and Nongshim at the Korea Food Industry Association, making this request.
Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is delivering opening remarks at a meeting held on the 11th at the Korea Food Industry Association, attended by representatives and executives of domestic food companies.
Minister Song said, "The core of stabilizing people’s livelihoods is price stability," adding, "The government will support the food industry to grow and develop with the mindset of overcoming challenges together, not by unilaterally asking for cooperation."
The meeting was organized to ▲ explain the 2025 food industry policy direction ▲ listen to industry difficulties and discuss solutions ▲ share changes in domestic and international environments such as the inauguration of the new U.S. administration ▲ and explore various cooperation measures between the government and industry for price stabilization.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, companies attending the meeting raised issues such as the application of tariff quotas on major food raw materials to stabilize processed food prices and export policy support to respond to changes in external conditions. The ministry emphasized its commitment to actively seek solutions to these difficulties.
Minister Song stated, "To reduce companies' cost burdens, we are supporting the expanded application of tariff quotas on major imported raw materials, extension of import value-added tax exemptions, and funds for raw material purchases," adding, "We will do our best to resolve food industry issues by continuously and closely communicating with the industry to identify and address additional difficulties."
