Expansion of Support Project for Biodegradable Mulching Film
Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, announced that it has successfully completed the cultivation of biodegradable mulching film, which has been promoted as a pilot project for the past 10 years to reduce labor for collecting covering vinyl and to establish a sustainable agricultural foundation. Starting next year, the project will be expanded as an agricultural policy support project within Cheongsong-gun.
Conventional chemical films require significant labor and costs for removal and disposal after crop harvest, and they can also cause environmental pollution. In contrast, biodegradable mulching films are made from plant-based resin components and naturally decompose after a certain period, offering benefits such as labor reduction and environmental protection.
Cheongsong-gun aims to address the issue of labor shortage caused by the rapid aging of the agricultural population and prevent environmental pollution from agricultural waste, thereby realizing an eco-friendly agricultural policy that aligns with the image of ‘Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong.’
Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “Expanding the distribution of biodegradable mulching films will activate eco-friendly agriculture and reduce the farming burden on farmers. We will continue to prepare various eco-friendly agricultural material support policies to improve the rural environment and create a sustainable agricultural environment.”
