Security Warnings and Blocking Measures
Notified to Affiliated Institutions and Schools
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) announced on the 11th that it blocked access to the Chinese generative artificial intelligence service DeepSeek, which has been controversial for excessive collection of personal information, on the 7th.
The Ulsan Office of Education informed its affiliated institutions and schools about security warnings and blocking measures regarding DeepSeek.
Currently, the Ulsan Office of Education has fundamentally blocked access to the DeepSeek site until safety, including personal information protection, is confirmed.
DeepSeek is known to collect extensive user personal information and transmit it to servers in its home country, leading to repeated blocks by government agencies.
Earlier, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety instructed all government ministries and metropolitan local governments not to input sensitive information or use AI-generated outputs without sufficient verification when using generative AI services such as DeepSeek.
The Ministry of Education has also blocked access to DeepSeek but has guided universities and graduate schools to use it with caution regarding security when utilizing it for academic research and educational purposes.
The existing generative AI ‘ChatGPT’ allows users to refuse the use of their personal information, but DeepSeek is known not to offer this option and can collect all personal information.
The Ulsan Office of Education designates the third Wednesday of every month as ‘Personal Information Protection Day’ for all institutions and schools. It deletes unnecessary personal information from work computers and encrypts unique identification information to establish a secure management system.
