Yangsan-si to Support Early Retirement of 2,193 Old Diesel Vehicles in 2025

Professional Agency 'Korea Automobile Environment Association' to Handle Operations, Subsidy Payment Speed Doubled
Grade 5 Emission Vehicles Eligible for Support Regardless of Fuel Type, 100% Subsidy Provided Upon Retirement

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province is implementing the ‘2025 Early Retirement Subsidy Program for Old Diesel Vehicles’ to create a clean city free from fine dust concerns.

The first round of applications will be accepted from the 18th of this month until March 4th. Applications can be submitted online (via the Comprehensive Vehicle Emission Computer System) or by registered mail (to the Korea Automobile Environment Association, a non-profit organization).

The city plans to invest a budget of 5.7 billion KRW this year to support the early retirement of approximately 2,193 old diesel vehicles. This year, the eligibility criteria and subsidy rates have been significantly expanded, so it is expected that more citizens will benefit.

▲ Expanded Eligibility and Subsidy

The eligible vehicles for this program include grade 5 emission vehicles (no fuel restrictions), grade 4 diesel vehicles, road-use type 3 construction machinery (dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, concrete pump trucks) that meet emission standards applied before August 31, 2009, as well as forklifts and excavators manufactured according to emission standards before December 31, 2004.

Key changes include ▲ inclusion of non-diesel fuel vehicles with grade 5 emissions as eligible ▲ basic subsidy rate raised to 100% for grade 5 vehicles under 3.5 tons gross weight, with an additional 50% subsidy when purchasing a new vehicle ▲ support of 14,000 KRW per vehicle for vehicle performance inspection costs (any amount exceeding 14,000 KRW is self-paid, and if the on-site inspection fee is less than 11,000 KRW, actual expenses will be reimbursed).

▲ Professional Agency ‘Korea Automobile Environment Association’ to Handle Operations

Starting this year, the Korea Automobile Environment Association will be responsible for receiving applications and providing consultations for the early retirement subsidy program, enabling faster selection of eligible applicants and processing. As a result, subsidy payments are expected to be more than twice as fast compared to last year.

▲ Application Methods and Precautions

Applicants can submit their applications ▲ by mail to the Korea Automobile Environment Association or ▲ easily online through the Comprehensive Vehicle Emission Computer System. However, applicants must have been continuously registered in Yangsan City for at least six months as of the application date, and if the vehicle’s gross weight is 3.5 tons or more, ownership must have been held for at least six months.

Selected applicants will be notified individually, and subsidies will be paid differentially within the subsidy ceiling according to vehicle type and year. Detailed information can be found in the announcement posted on the city’s website under the Notices section, or inquiries can be made to the Korea Automobile Environment Association or the Climate Environment Division’s Air Management Team.

Lee Doo-young, head of the Climate Environment Division, stated, “With the expanded eligibility and subsidy rates this year, this is a great opportunity for citizens to benefit and contribute to creating a pleasant urban environment by reducing air pollutants emitted from old diesel vehicles. We encourage active participation from our citizens.”
