National Assembly Announces Its Position
"Yoon Abandoned the Presidency the Moment Martial Law Was Declared"

The National Assembly side, the impeachment proposers of President Yoon Suk-yeol, stated on the 11th ahead of the 7th hearing at the Constitutional Court, "The Constitutional Court is providing the respondent with sufficient opportunities to guarantee the right to defense," and added, "We are reaching the limits of our patience. We hope for a swift conclusion to the hearing."

On the same day, Kim Yi-su, co-representative of the National Assembly's legal team, said, "The person who caused the 'self' impeachment is now even claiming conspiracy theories about impeachment by grasping at straws," and added, "We believe that a dismissal decision made as soon as possible is the shortcut to stabilizing and normalizing the Republic of Korea, and we will continue to devote our utmost efforts today as well." The Constitutional Court has not yet given a definite answer regarding the scheduling of additional hearings after the 8th hearing planned for the 13th.

He also added, "Through the past six hearings, not only the unconstitutionality and illegality of the declaration of martial law and the issuance of the proclamation have been sufficiently revealed, but also the unconstitutionality and illegality of the National Assembly and the Election Commission's intrusion acts."

Lawyer Lee Kwang-beom from the National Assembly side also argued that since the Constitutional Court has already provided President Yoon with sufficient opportunities to guarantee the right to defense, the hearing should conclude with the witness examination this week. Lee said, "The respondent is misusing and abusing the right to defense and furthermore is fabricating a rebellion frame to carry out an 'impeachment conspiracy' against himself, raising conspiracy theories," and criticized, "The absurd claims by the respondent and his supporters, like trying to cover the sky with the palm of their hand, have gone far beyond reason."

Lee emphasized, "The grounds for dismissal against the respondent are exactly as we witnessed on the night of December 3 last year. It was the moment when the respondent declared the prohibition of the National Assembly's political activities," and added, "At that moment, the respondent, with an extra-constitutional awareness and action, gave up being the President of the Republic of Korea." He continued, "The previous impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye was an issue concerning the allowance of a specific person's intervention in state affairs and abuse of power, but this case requires no further fact-finding," and said, "The respondent's actions are a direct violation of the Constitution, so the seriousness of the violation is clearly evident."
