Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Strategy and Finance, emphasized on the 11th regarding the elementary school student death incident that occurred in Daejeon, "The Ministry of Education and related agencies should thoroughly investigate this incident and prepare necessary measures to ensure that such an event never happens again."


During his opening remarks at the Cabinet meeting held at the Government Complex Seoul that morning, Acting President Choi said, "We express our deep condolences for the elementary school student death incident that occurred yesterday in Daejeon."


According to the police, around 6 p.m. the previous day, an incident occurred at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Daejeon, where a female teacher in her 40s stabbed and killed an 8-year-old girl with a weapon. The teacher is reported to have confessed to the crime. She had been on leave due to issues such as depression and returned to work at the end of last year.


Acting President Choi said, "Since schools should be the safest places, this incident is even more tragic and heartbreaking," and added, "First, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family who must have suffered great shock and pain from this incident."


He continued, "With the new school term approaching soon, I ask that you inspect to ensure our students can live in a safe environment."
