The Kim Geuntae Foundation Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch announced on the 10th that it carried out a "Sharing Briquettes of Love" volunteer activity on the 9th, targeting vulnerable households in the Gwangju area who are burdened by heating costs.
Fifteen members, including Shin Sujeong (Chairperson of the Gwangju City Council) and board members of the Kim Geuntae Foundation Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, participated in the volunteer activity on this day.
The members of the Kim Geuntae Foundation Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, who hold the "Sharing Briquettes of Love" volunteer activity every year, delivered 1,200 briquettes to four vulnerable households on this day. They also personally delivered briquettes to households in Gwangsan-gu that had difficulty receiving deliveries due to the recent heavy snowfall, helping neighbors in need to have a warmer winter.
Nam Hohyun (Chairperson of the Gwangju Nam-gu Council), an executive committee member who participated in the volunteer activity, said, "I hope the warmth from the briquettes delivered today will bring some comfort to neighbors struggling in the cold weather," and added, "Especially in these difficult economic times, we will strive to pay even closer attention to vulnerable groups."
Yoon Hyeyoung (Member of the Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Council), another participant, said, "For those vulnerable to the cold, briquettes are still an important energy source for surviving the winter," and added, "It is very meaningful to be able to share warmth with neighbors who are suffering even more due to the cold wave and heavy snow, even though it is already Ipchun (the beginning of spring)."
Meanwhile, the Kim Geuntae Foundation will hold the "9th Democrat Kim Geuntae Award Ceremony" at the National Assembly Members' Hall on the 14th. Recently, it became a topic of conversation that the light green necktie worn by National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik during the vote on President Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment motion was a keepsake from his political mentor, the late Kim Geuntae, former chairman of the Uri Party.
