The 'AI Academy,' also known as the 'Insider School' (a school attended by AI insiders), which offers hands-on experience at national artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and provides training programs reflecting the latest technological trends such as generative AI, is now recruiting students for this year.
The city of Gwangju announced on the 10th that it is recruiting 330 students for the 6th cohort of the 'AI Academy' until April 30.
The AI Academy is an institution dedicated to training AI professionals, supported by Gwangju City, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group.
Since launching its first cohort in 2020, the academy has produced a total of 1,221 AI professionals over the past five years through a robust AI curriculum, up to the 5th cohort last year. Among graduates from cohorts 1 to 4, 70.9% have successfully found employment or started businesses, and in the 5th cohort (2024), 52 students secured jobs even before graduation, demonstrating excellent employment and entrepreneurship outcomes.
Through systematic management from application to completion and employment or entrepreneurship, students can learn everything from basic education for non-AI majors to practical skills immediately applicable in the field. The academy has achieved visible results, including 33 awards in major national AI competitions, 19 presentations at domestic and international academic conferences, 10 patent applications, and 695 AI-related certifications.
Having trained AI professionals over the past five years, the AI Academy has established itself as a leading institution for practical talent development in Korea and is now preparing to launch its 6th cohort. Applications for the 6th cohort are open on the AI Academy website until April 30. Any unemployed youth aged 18 to 39 nationwide who is interested in AI can apply, regardless of academic background, major, grades, or place of residence.
Students will be selected through a process that includes a document review, an online basic course, a competency test, and an in-depth interview, with final selections made in May. The 6th cohort program will run for a total of 10 months, offering 1,300 hours of AI theory and practical training, as well as project courses. The program will expand from the existing three tracks?AI Modeling, AI-based Services, and AI Platform and Infrastructure?to five tracks by adding AI Data and AI Business.
Students will be provided with educational equipment such as laptops, and all educational expenses, including tuition, meals, transportation, dormitory fees, textbooks, and learning content, will be fully covered.
To help students build their employment and entrepreneurship skills, the program offers AI company-linked projects, expert lectures, and customized training (global online content, supplementary learning, clubs, study groups, certification acquisition, etc.). Outstanding students will also have the opportunity to attend CES 2026, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA.
Choi Taejo, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Office, said, "The 6th cohort of the AI Academy is thoroughly prepared with step-by-step and level-based training programs, as well as follow-up support programs, building on the experience and know-how accumulated over the past five years. We hope that many young people interested in AI nationwide will start their future in Gwangju."
