Seosan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 10th that it will officially operate the "Cheongnyeomhacheon Inspection Team" to intensively crack down on illegal activities occurring in rivers.
The Cheongnyeomhacheon Inspection Team is comprised of officials from the Seosan City Construction Division and local administrative welfare centers, and will be operated to maintain rivers and promote public interests.
The team plans to conduct intensive inspections from the 10th to the 28th, targeting 44 local rivers and 101 small streams, among others.
The illegal activities subject to inspection include: unauthorized occupation and cultivation of river land; unauthorized excavation, embankment, cutting, and alteration of river land; damage to river facilities; and illegal dumping of waste.
If illegal activities are discovered during the inspection process, the city will take immediate corrective action, and if improvements are not made, orders to restore the original state will be issued.
The city also plans to prevent the recurrence of illegal activities by conducting continuous inspections and resident awareness campaigns through the inspection team.
Kim Hyesong, head of the Seosan City Construction Division, said, "We will thoroughly inspect illegal activities in rivers to ensure that all citizens can use clean and safe rivers," adding, "We will respond strongly to illegal activities and create a pleasant river environment through continuous management and prevention."
