For the first time in Gwangju, a chamber orchestra composed solely of students eligible for special education has been established.
The Gwangju Office of Education announced on the 10th that it has launched a chamber orchestra made up of students eligible for special education. This orchestra was created to support students in expanding their opportunities for social participation and boosting their self-esteem through music.
From December of last year to January of this year, auditions were held for students from 5th grade in elementary school to 2nd grade in high school, and a total of seven members were selected to play violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, and piano.
From March to November, the members will participate in 35 sessions of orchestra ensemble and section practice. Professional instructors will establish individualized education plans based on the type and level of each student's disability, focusing on strengthening their areas of weakness. The orchestra will make its debut at the "Dreaming Culture and Arts Festival" in November and other events.
The city office of education expects that the establishment of this orchestra will help discover students' musical talents and enhance their cultural and artistic capabilities.
In addition, the office will continue to support one-person, one-art education, arts clubs for students eligible for special education, and integrated arts clubs for students with and without disabilities.
