Jeollanam-do is establishing a comprehensive dementia management system that encompasses early diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and care. The plan is to support dementia patients so they can live with dignity in their own homes, rather than moving to welfare facilities.

The province has finalized its 2025 Dementia Management Implementation Plan based on these objectives.

This implementation plan is centered around two main pillars: specialized dementia management and care, and strengthening the policy foundation for dementia-related initiatives. Through this, the province aims to reinforce the dementia prevention system, facilitate early detection among high-risk groups, and expand customized support for dementia patients and their families.

The cognitive health promotion program will be expanded, and tailored dementia prevention education will be developed for illiterate individuals to establish a more robust prevention system.

To enhance treatment and care for dementia patients, Jeollanam-do will train dementia care managers to provide home-visit care services, and expand these services to those diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment and early-stage dementia, addressing gaps in service coverage.

Support for families of dementia patients will also be strengthened.

The "Dementia Patient and Family Healing Program" will be expanded to reduce the burden of family caregiving, and the eligibility for financial support for dementia treatment and management will be raised from 120% to 140% of the median income, alleviating economic burdens.

In addition, the number of dementia-safe villages will increase from 107 to 120, and the distribution of wandering detection devices and simulated training for missing person prevention will be expanded to strengthen the community-based care system for dementia patients.

Lee Sangsim, Director of Health and Welfare at Jeollanam-do, said, "Through the dementia management implementation plan, we will do our best to ensure that all residents can receive dementia prevention and management services regardless of where they live."
