Goheung County to Develop as a 'Gastronomic City' Aiming for 10 Million Tourists

A New Dining Culture
Emphasizing Health and Quality

Goheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor: Gong Youngmin) announced on the 10th that it will actively promote the creation of "Gourmet Goheung," a destination attracting 10 million tourists, in line with its goal of reaching 10 million visitors by 2030.

The plan is to develop distinctive gourmet tourism content based on the region's abundant seafood and local specialties, aiming to revitalize tourism and drive local economic development.

To this end, the county has set four key initiatives: ▲ Achieving the three main goals of voluntary practice by restaurant owners ▲ Operating local food booths at regional festivals utilizing the "8 Products, 9 Delicacies" ▲ Expanding the restaurant certification system ▲ Promoting Goheung's signature dishes. A total of 12 detailed action plans have been established, with the goal of establishing Goheung's flavors as the "Gourmet Goheung" brand.

In particular, for 2025, the county announced it will focus on three voluntary practices for restaurant owners: encouraging the implementation of the three major cleanliness campaigns in restaurants, maintaining and managing clean restrooms, and prohibiting the reuse of leftovers, in order to foster a clean and trustworthy food culture.

Additionally, Goheung County, which has successfully hosted regional festivals such as the Nokdong Drone Show and the Goheung Yuja Festival, plans to leverage its high rate of restaurant facility improvements and hygiene product distribution compared to other local governments, as well as the modernization of traditional charcoal-grilled fish facilities, to further establish itself as a leading destination where sightseeing and gourmet experiences coexist.

A county official stated, "By revitalizing gourmet tourism, we expect to significantly increase the number of tourists visiting Goheung, promote the consumption of local agricultural and marine products, and boost the income of small business owners. We will continue to implement a variety of policies to establish Goheung as a hub city for gourmet tourism."
