Gyeongju City announced on the 10th that it has appointed Yoon Seung-hyun, an expert in the exhibition and convention field and former professor at Hannam University, as the new president of HICO (Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center) ahead of the 2025 APEC Summit to be held in October.
Yoon was appointed as the 6th president of HICO at the board meeting held on the 23rd of last month, marking his second term as HICO president.
On the 10th, Joo Nak-young, Mayor of Gyeongju City, awarded a certificate of appointment to Yoon Seung-hyun (right), a new president of HICO and an expert in the exhibition and convention field and former professor at Hannam University, at the city hall, followed by a commemorative photo session.
Yoon previously served as HICO president for two years from 2017 to 2019.
Yoon Seung-hyun holds a bachelor's and master's degree in economics from Korea University and a doctorate in tourism from Kyung Hee University. He has accumulated extensive experience in the exhibition and convention field, having served as executive director at COEX, Korea's first convention center, professor of hotel and aviation management at Hannam University, dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration, and dean of the Graduate School of Defense Strategy.
During his first term as HICO president, Yoon established the MICE Business Division and developed regionally specialized exhibitions such as the ‘Cultural Heritage Industry Exhibition’ and the ‘Hanok Expo,’ earning recognition for tangible achievements.
Gyeongju City plans to fully mobilize HICO's capabilities along with President Yoon Seung-hyun to ensure the successful hosting of the 2025 APEC Summit.
At the appointment ceremony held in Gyeongju on the same day, Mayor Joo Nak-young said, “HICO’s role is crucial in Gyeongju, which will be the center of the 2025 APEC Summit. We will spare no support to ensure smooth preparations for the meeting.”
Newly appointed President Yoon Seung-hyun stated, “I will do my best together with the staff to successfully lead the 2025 APEC Summit,” adding, “I will also contribute to the revitalization and sustainable development of the Gyeongju MICE industry.”
