Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) signed a business agreement on the 7th with senior welfare institutions in Jongno-gu and Yongsan-gu to deploy 62 'Senior Boarding and Alighting Safety Assistants' in congested subway stations.

The 'Boarding and Alighting Safety Assistants' project is meaningful as it provides seniors with various experiences and opportunities to participate in a self-help project where vulnerable transportation users assist other vulnerable users, thereby improving the quality of life for the elderly and preventing social isolation.

On February 7, the company signed mutual agreements with Jongno Senior Club and Yongsan Senior Welfare Center to deploy senior subway boarding and alighting safety assistants.

The hired subway safety personnel will complete job and safety training from the 10th to the 14th before being assigned to subway safety duties starting on the 17th.

After a three-month pilot period, if no issues arise, the program will be expanded until December 31.

At the agreement ceremony held in the 5th-floor conference room of the company headquarters, Ma Hae-geun, Head of Seoul Metro's Sales Headquarters, Ko Hyun-jong, Director of Jongno Senior Club, and Hong Tae-im, Director of Yongsan Senior Welfare Center, attended and pledged cooperation to promote a safe subway environment and create jobs for seniors between the company and local districts.

The company aims to contribute to job creation for seniors and the prevention of safety accidents within subway stations by signing agreements with more local senior welfare institutions by 2026.

Meanwhile, in line with Seoul City's policy of 'Walking with the Vulnerable,' since 2023, the company has been promoting various job creation projects such as subway safety assistants, guides for the visually impaired, and senior elevator safety teams.

Ma Hae-geun, Head of Seoul Metro's Sales Headquarters, stated, “Through this agreement with senior welfare institutions in Seoul, the company expects to simultaneously realize job creation for socially vulnerable groups and the establishment of a safe subway usage environment. We will do our best to ensure this project becomes a positive precedent and is expanded further next year.”
