'Geomundo Haepung Ssuk', a specialty product representing Yeosu, is about to be shipped in earnest.
According to Yeosu City on the 10th, Geomundo begins harvesting about two weeks earlier than other regions due to its milder winter weather. The fresh mugwort is shipped from mid-February to late March, while mugwort for processing is shipped from early April to late June.
Processed products such as mugwort rice cakes and mugwort tea are sold year-round at local food stores and through online shopping malls.
To strengthen the Geomundo Haepung Ssuk brand, the city is investing 109 million won to support farmers with standardized packaging, timely shipping logistics costs, and eco-friendly pest control using drones.
A city official said, "Geomundo Haepung Ssuk, registered as Geographical Indication No. 85, is a medicinal mugwort grown in clean waters and exposed to sea winds, rich in antioxidants such as beta-carotene and minerals. We will focus on widely promoting the excellence of Geomundo Haepung Ssuk and increasing farmers' income."
