Uiryeong Elementary and Middle Schools Sweep the 66th National Youth Soft Tennis Tournament

Uiryeong Elementary and Middle Schools Each Take First Place in Team Events

Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that the Uiryeong Elementary School and Uiryeong Middle School soft tennis teams won gold medals in the elementary and middle school team events and secured major medals in individual events at the '66th National Youth Soft Tennis Tournament' held from January 19 to 24 at the indoor soft tennis stadium in Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk.


Last year, they won bronze medals in the elementary and middle school team events at the 53rd National Youth Sports Festival.

At the 66th National Youth Soft Tennis Tournament, they achieved 1st place in the elementary school team event; 1st place in elementary school doubles (Jeon Min-gang, Kwon Dong-woo); 2nd place (Kang Min-jae, Kim Kwang-hee); 1st place in the middle school team event; 3rd place in middle school doubles (Seo Yoo-hwan, Jeong Seon-min); and 3rd place in individual singles (Jeon Min-jun, Kim Do-yoon).


With a minimum number of players?12 elementary students and 7 middle school students?they produced outstanding results. Regarding the secret to their performance improvement, Woo Chang-hyo, the elementary team coach, evaluated, "Their offensive power has reached the top national level. Their adaptability to matches is excellent, and their potential is limitless."


Song Yoo-hyun, the elementary team captain, said, "Our Uiryeong team has strong fighting spirit and momentum. Our specialty is scoring points quickly with short, sharp attacks thanks to our good skills."

Despite harsh training conditions, congratulatory messages poured in from all walks of life for the rural school's students' excellent performance.


Hwang Woo-yong, principal of Uiryeong Elementary School, said, "The school flag of Uiryeong Elementary is tennis. The students' recent achievements are a source of pride for the school, and all members of the educational community are delighted."


Jeon Seon-byeong, president of the Uiryeong Soft Tennis Association, said, "I cannot praise the juniors' growth enough. We will continue to support their further development."


The students unanimously expressed confidence, saying, "If support is further strengthened, we can win the Youth Sports Festival this year."
