The White House press corps reported on the 9th (local time) that President Trump played golf with the Woods family at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida. On social media, a video was posted showing President Trump and Woods holding golf clubs and talking at the driving range of the Trump International Golf Club. The video captures President Trump and Woods touching their clubs and exchanging conversation, while Woods' son Charlie is seen checking his swing nearby.
Amid stalled merger negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, which is supported by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan recently met with President Trump. Following this, Woods also played a round with President Trump, drawing attention to whether this might break the deadlock in the merger talks. Woods serves as the policy director of the PGA Tour's highest decision-making body.
During his first term, President Trump took special care of Woods, awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States. Woods was the 33rd athlete in history to receive the Medal of Freedom.
