Promotion of 25 Projects in 5 Sectors Including Medical Support
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will allocate a budget of 124 billion KRW to strengthen support policies aimed at promoting the independence and stability of people with disabilities in the province.
According to the province on the 10th, this amount is an increase of 2.6 billion KRW compared to last year, and aims to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through 25 projects in five sectors.
As of the end of last year, the total number of registered people with disabilities in Jeonbuk was 128,989.
In particular, a total of 99.3 billion KRW will be allocated to nine projects under the ‘Disability Livelihood Stability and Medical Support Project’, including disability allowances, disability pensions, and medical expense support, to help low-income people with disabilities maintain a stable life.
Additionally, the ‘Community Independence Support Pilot Project for People with Disabilities’ will receive a total of 2 billion KRW to provide one-on-one tailored services for employment, housing, and cultural activities, enabling people with disabilities to live independently within their communities.
The ‘Support Project for Families with Children with Disabilities’ will be allocated 18.1 billion KRW, focusing on alleviating the difficulties faced by families with children with disabilities and improving the quality of care services through five projects, including support for child-rearing and improved treatment for caregivers.
The ‘Community Activity Support Project for Organizations of People with Disabilities’ includes various programs such as Braille education for the visually impaired, night school operation, and Hi-Pass terminal support, with a total budget of 300 million KRW. These initiatives aim to help people with disabilities better adapt to the community and enhance their convenience in daily life.
The ‘Rehabilitation and Independence Support Project for People with Disabilities’ will receive 4.3 billion KRW for seven projects, including the operation of independent living support centers and financial support for those leaving residential facilities, to help people with disabilities lead independent lives after leaving institutions.
Notably, the disability pension will be increased to a maximum of 432,510 KRW per month (an increase of 7,700 KRW compared to 2024), the number of beneficiaries for child-rearing support for families with children with disabilities will rise to 522 (an increase of 57 compared to 2024), and the hourly training allowance for disability caregivers will be raised to 10,590 KRW (an increase of 730 KRW compared to 2024), significantly expanding support to promote faster independence for people with disabilities.
Yang Sumi, Director of Disability Welfare Policy, stated, “We will conduct systematic monitoring to ensure these policies achieve tangible results and will continuously reflect the opinions of people with disabilities to further improve our policies.”
