On the 6th, Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Yuchang E&C to collaborate on developing AI smart modular construction products and securing market leadership.
The signing ceremony held at Yuchang E&C's Cheonan factory was attended by Samsung Electronics Korea Head Vice President Lim Seong-taek, Samsung Electronics Korea B2B Team Head (Vice President) Oh Chi-oh, Yuchang Chairman Jo Yong-seon, and Yuchang E&C CEO Jo Woo-je.
Yuchang E&C started Korea's first modular construction business in 2003. Based on its leading technology, it has introduced various types of modular buildings, including residential, educational, office, and military facilities.
Through this agreement, Samsung Electronics plans to apply 'SmartThings Pro,' which provides customized AI solutions according to the shape and purpose of spaces, along with innovative AI home appliances such as system air conditioners, signage, refrigerators, washing machines, and approximately 4,200 SmartThings-compatible devices, to Yuchang E&C's diverse modular buildings.
'SmartThings Pro' is a B2B AI solution that expands the 'SmartThings' connected experience inside homes to commercial buildings such as offices and hotels, as well as schools and multi-residential facilities. It helps tenants and managers manage buildings more conveniently and efficiently by enabling AI-based integrated energy management and remote management and operation of equipment requiring maintenance.
'SmartThings Pro' connects and integrates control of various devices and systems, including AI home appliances like air conditioners and air purifiers, temperature and motion sensors, doors, smart plugs, lighting, and even building HVAC systems. Using the SmartThings app, users can monitor all connected devices and systems at a glance.
Additionally, Samsung Electronics plans to expand the 'Home AI' vision announced at CES 2025 earlier this year to modular construction. Samsung's 'Home AI' vision aims to extend the experience of home beyond the residence to transportation, workspaces, commercial facilities, and anywhere else, creating a comfortable environment like home wherever you go.
Samsung Electronics will also continue to expand collaboration related to the future eco-friendly residential model 'Net Zero Home,' which aims to produce energy at home and use it efficiently to achieve zero carbon emissions, strengthening its approach to the modular market.
Vice President Lim Seong-taek said, "The combination of Samsung Electronics' AI solutions and the technology of Korea's largest modular manufacturer Yuchang E&C will allow customers to enjoy differentiated AI experiences in a wider variety of modular spaces," adding, "Through our collaboration, we will lead the market by introducing new AI-based modular spaces not only for general customers but also for various industrial spaces." Yuchang E&C CEO Jo Woo-je said, "Through this MOU, we expect to create new value beyond mere spaces to stay in with user-centered smart modular solutions," and added, "We will further solidify our leadership in the modular construction market together with Samsung Electronics' AI solutions."
