The development project for the 'Geostationary Meteorological and Space Weather Satellite (Chollian Satellite 5)' is set to be actively promoted.
The Korea Space Agency and the Korea Meteorological Administration will hold a project briefing session for the development of Chollian Satellite 5 on the afternoon of the 11th at Azalea Hall, 5th floor, KW Convention Center in Daejeon.
The Chollian Satellite 5 development project is the first domestic geostationary satellite development project in which a private company oversees the entire satellite development process. Following the announcement on the 5th, the project has entered the full-scale implementation phase.
Through this briefing session, the Space Agency and the Meteorological Administration will provide the project guide for the Chollian Satellite 5 development, explain the requests for proposals related to system and main body development, meteorological payload development, and space weather payload development, as well as instructions on how to prepare research and development plans. They also plan to encourage industry participation by answering inquiries from companies, academia, and research institutes interested in joining the project. Additionally, technical specification documents will be distributed on-site to institutions that have submitted letters of intent for leading research and development participation.
Kim Eung-hyun, Program Manager for Satellite Mission Design at the Space Agency, stated, "In the new space era, we expect the Chollian Satellite 5 development project to serve as a foundation for creating a private-led space industry ecosystem," and added, "We ask for the keen interest and active participation of domestic satellite development companies."
