Samyang Foods is targeting the Japanese soup noodle market with its overseas brand 'MEP'.

Samyang Foods announced on the 10th that it will operate a brand booth at the '59th Supermarket Trade Show' held from the 12th to the 14th at Makuhari Messe Exhibition Center in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. At this exhibition, Samyang Foods will introduce new products from its main brand Buldak Bokkeummyeon series, soup noodle brand MEP, and the renewed pasta brand Tangle.

Speed of Japanese Market Entry... Samyang Foods Launches Overseas Brand 'Maep'

MEP is the overseas brand of 'Maeptang', a soup noodle brand launched domestically by Samyang Foods in August 2023. It is characterized by subdividing spicy flavors into five types: fiery, sharp, clean, pungent, and subtle, focusing on various situations where spicy noodles are sought. The new products introduced to the Japanese market this time are two types: 'Black Pepper Beef Ramen' and 'Garlic Clam Ramen', which implement a popular spicy flavor emphasizing umami, considering consumers' preferences.

The Japanese ramen market is about 7 trillion won in size, with soup noodles accounting for the majority. Samyang Foods, which has focused on Buldak Bokkeummyeon, plans to target the local soup noodle market through the launch of MEP.

In addition, a new product of the pasta brand Tangle, launched last year, 'Garlic Shrimp Pasta', will be newly released. It is characterized by a soft cream sauce with added spiciness, inspired by Toowoomba pasta.

A Samyang Foods official said, "MEP has been receiving high interest from major local distributors such as Don Quijote, Aeon, and Life even before its launch," adding, "We will develop it as Samyang Foods' representative brand in the growing spicy soup noodle market in Japan."

Meanwhile, the 'Supermarket Trade Show' is Japan's largest food distribution exhibition, attracting about 80,000 visitors. This year, about 2,200 companies related to food manufacturing, distribution, and equipment are expected to participate.
