Cumulative Snowfall Reached 31.5 cm on the 6th, Level 1 Emergency Snow Removal Operations Initiated
Environmental Officers Rapidly Deployed to Vulnerable Areas such as Subway Stations, Crosswalks, and Bus Stops
All-out Efforts to Prevent Accidents During Commute Hours, Regardless of Early Morning or Night
The swift snow removal efforts by environmental officers in Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) have drawn attention.
There are 95 environmental officers working in Gwangjin-gu. These officers primarily clean roads, sidewalks, and facilities, striving to maintain a pleasant and safe street environment. During winter, alongside street cleaning, they also focus on prompt snow removal to ensure safe streets.
On the 6th, the temperature was minus 7 degrees Celsius with a snowfall of 4.5 cm (cumulative snowfall of 31.5 cm). The district activated Level 1 emergency snow removal operations and began emergency duty. Continuous subzero temperatures raised concerns about accidents caused by ice formation.
The 95 environmental officers acted faster than anyone else. They responded quickly to prevent the snow from accumulating and freezing. Following the emergency duty plans for each level, they concentrated snow removal efforts around subway stations, crosswalks, and bus stops?places heavily used by residents. In particular, a rapid response team was urgently deployed to subway station entrances, where slips and falls were anticipated due to slipperiness, to thoroughly clear the snow.
Shin, an environmental officer working in Gwangjin-gu, said, “To ensure residents can travel safely, my colleagues and I carry out snow removal regardless of early morning, weekdays, or nighttime. It is tough work, but sometimes warm words from residents give us strength and a sense of fulfillment.”
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Whether it is cleaning or snow removal, rain or snow, I am grateful to the environmental officers who silently fulfill their duties in the same place. We will continue to monitor carefully to prevent any damage caused by snow through swift responses.”
Earlier, the district designated the snow removal period from November 15 to March 15 last year and has been operating the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, focusing all efforts on minimizing residents’ inconvenience and preventing safety accidents.
