Democratic Party: "Pro-Yoon lawmakers should not deliver provocative messages when meeting Yoon... Act like lawmakers"

Han Min-su, Democratic Party Spokesperson
"The public says it is harder now than during the IMF crisis"

The Democratic Party strongly criticized senior members of the People Power Party on the 9th for visiting President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is currently detained on charges of leading a rebellion. They pointed out that efforts should be focused on "livelihood issues that affect people's daily lives."

Han Min-su, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters at the National Assembly that regarding the schedule for the government consultation meeting, "We have held working-level discussions and are prepared," adding, "I understand that the People Power Party is not responding because they are attaching various conditions."

Spokesperson Han also criticized People Power Party members for attending far-right rallies. He said, "People Power Party members keep going to far-right rally sites, and the leadership is visiting the detention center to see President Yoon, who is charged with leading a rebellion," adding, "Go to the regions and listen to what small business owners and self-employed people are saying." Spokesperson Han stated, "Everyone says it is really hard to make a living. They say it cannot even be compared to the IMF financial crisis or COVID-19," and added, "Will ruling party members behave like that? We request and warn them to act appropriately as members of the ruling party and as lawmakers."

Regarding pro-Yoon ruling party lawmakers meeting with President Yoon, he criticized, "Has President Yoon, who is charged with leading a rebellion, issued an apology message to the people? Has he delivered a message for national unity? Wasn't it a completely different message saying 'Our party must unite tightly'?" He added, "Isn't this to incite a small group of people with certain views? Also, isn't it an attempt to divide the people and deliver inciting messages through President Yoon?" He continued, "This is not the time for that," and urged, "Whether pro-Yoon or anti-Yoon, I hope they take the lead in restoring livelihoods and external credibility."

Regarding People Power Party lawmakers attending far-right rallies that claim election fraud, he pointed out, "Then was the election they won a legitimate election?" and said, "People Power Party lawmakers and regional chairpersons who have common sense and rational judgment say there was no election fraud." He also countered President Yoon's claim of an enlightenment order by asking, "If it was a warning to the Democratic Party, why did they try to arrest former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, who was the ruling party representative?"
