Mayor Park Hyung-joon Urgently Presides Over Accident Countermeasure Meeting
"One-on-One Dedicated Officials Assigned to Support Victims' Families"

Busan City dispatched an on-site response team in the early hours of the 9th regarding the sinking of the Busan-registered vessel No. 22 Seogyeongho in the waters off Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. A response meeting was also held that morning to ensure swift action.


Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-joon) announced that at 8 a.m. on the 9th, a countermeasure meeting related to the Busan-registered sinking accident was held at the City Hall Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, presided over by Mayor Park Hyung-joon.

At around 1:49 a.m. on the same day, Busan City quickly discussed countermeasures to check the situation and review support measures following the sinking of the No. 22 Seogyeongho near 9.2 miles east of Habakdo in the Yeosu waters.


At 5 a.m., the first meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Director of the Citizen Safety Office, and to ensure rapid response and support, an on-site response team was formed at 5:30 a.m. and dispatched to Yeosu. The on-site response team is working at the Joint Regional Accident Recovery Headquarters, managing the situation on-site and directly overseeing support measures from Busan City.


Then, at 6 a.m., the Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau attended a video conference hosted by the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries to discuss cooperation among related agencies.


At 8 a.m., Mayor Park Hyung-joon held a countermeasure meeting with related departments to discuss comprehensive measures.


Mayor Park first made a phone call to the representative of the shipping company involved in the accident, expressed condolences to the victims' families, and promised that the city would do its utmost to support the accident recovery.


Mayor Park then reviewed the on-site action manual and checked the direction of future situation management and countermeasures. With the participation of related agencies including the marine and disaster safety departments, coast guard, and fire services, Mayor Park received reports on the accident overview and damage status, checked the status of personnel and resources necessary for rescue operations and support measures, and discussed future plans.


Mayor Park said, “Maintain a close cooperative system with the government, Jeollanam-do, the coast guard, and other related agencies, and mobilize all available resources that the city can provide to do our best in rescue and search support.”


He also urged, “Assign dedicated public officials on a one-to-one basis to meticulously support the victims and their families and make every effort to ensure thorough care.”

At around 1:49 a.m. on the same day, the Busan-registered purse seiner No. 22 Seogyeongho (139 tons) sank while fishing approximately 9.2 miles east of Habakdo, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. It is presumed to have capsized. Of the 14 crew members on board, 7 were rescued, but among them, 3 died and 7 remain missing.
