APEC Cultural Director Appointed: Professor Lee Do-hoon of Hongik University to Develop Exhibition, Performance, and Experience Programs

Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 9th that it has appointed Professor Lee Do-hoon of Hongik University as the Cultural Director for the successful promotion of the APEC 2025 KOREA Cultural Festival.


Appointed Cultural Director Lee Do-hoon is currently a professor at the Graduate School of Film and Communication at Hongik University, and previously oversaw the cultural performances at the 2005 APEC Summit Leaders' Dinner.

He also served as the general director of the National Sports Festival held in Gumi and as the production director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, successfully leading world-class cultural events.


As the 2025 APEC Summit will be held in Gyeongju, a representative historic city of Korea, Gyeongbuk plans to showcase the DNA of Gyeongbuk culture to the world through various cultural programs.


Key programs include the 5韓 Experience Cultural Program, a musical permanent performance based on Silla historical and cultural themes, and a drone art show. Additionally, exhibitions in collaboration with local art museums and branded performances by national art organizations are expected to further elevate Gyeongju's cultural status.


Newly appointed Cultural Director Lee Do-hoon is expected to play a crucial role in organizing the themes and concepts of each cultural program based on his extensive experience and expertise, providing a special cultural experience to leaders from various countries and promoting Gyeongbuk's culture.


He will also contribute to establishing operational guidelines for the event and focus on developing exhibitions, performances, and experiential programs that reflect the cultural characteristics of participating countries.


Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “Cultural Director Lee Do-hoon is the right person with high-level artistry and leadership who has successfully led large-scale cultural events domestically and internationally, enhancing the status of Korean culture. I hope he will do his best to successfully promote the 2025 APEC Cultural Festival, strengthen international exchanges, and contribute to regional development through this.”
