Songpa Bridge Stepping and Daljip Burning... Songpa-gu's Jeongwol Daeboreum Event on February 12

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold a Jeongwol Daeboreum event around Seokchon Lake on the 12th, showcasing various traditional customs to wish for the peace and good fortune of its residents.

The event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Seoul Nori Madang and the 'Cultural Experiment Space Hosu' parking lot by the west shore of Seokchon Lake. It is hosted and organized by the Songpa Folklore Preservation Society.

The district stated, "Against the backdrop of the most urban scenery, you can have a special experience commemorating Jeongwol Daeboreum in the most traditional way."

The event begins with traditional performances at Seoul Nori Madang. After enlivening the atmosphere with street performances and Gyeonggi folk songs, the 'Songpa Daribapgi,' Seoul City Intangible Cultural Property No. 3, follows.

'Daribapgi' is a representative custom of Jeongwol Daeboreum. Participants walk back and forth across a bridge according to their age to pray for the prevention of misfortune and leg ailments. 'Songpa Daribapgi' is particularly special due to its playful nature. Unlike other regions, it incorporates singing, dancing, and musical instrument performances along with the bridge stepping. It is a traditional cultural heritage recognized for Songpa's originality.

After the performance, residents will have the opportunity to experience Daribapgi themselves and make wishes.

Following this, the performance team will descend from the stage and march with the audience to the Daljip (moon house) burning site. The traditional atmosphere will be further enhanced by torchlight and Cheongsachorong (traditional Korean lantern) guided paths illuminating the darkness.

The finale is the burning of the Daljip (wish papers). This will take place at the public parking lot of the 'Cultural Experiment Space Hosu' located on the west shore of Seokchon Lake. While the Daljip burns, attendees will pray for peace and good fortune throughout the year under the round full moon.

Additionally, participants can experience various traditional customs suitable for Jeongwol Daeboreum, such as ▲making Yakshik (traditional rice cake), ▲creating LED Jwibulnori (fire play), and ▲writing family mottos.

Anyone can participate on the day of the event without prior registration. For more details, please contact the Culture and Arts Division of Songpa-gu Office.

Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, "The Songpa-gu Jeongwol Daeboreum event is a unique site to experience tradition against the backdrop of the most modern urban scenery and the natural landscape of the lake," adding, "We hope many people who are tired and struggling will come to Songpa-gu this Jeongwol Daeboreum and receive abundant positive energy."
