Yoon's Side: "Inauguration Ceremony at Cheonggye Square on the 13th"
Jeon Han-gil, Korean History Instructor Who Called It an "Enlightenment Decree," Also Joins
Amid the ongoing impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol at the Constitutional Court due to the emergency martial law declared on December 3, his longtime friend and lawyer Seok Dong-hyun stated, "The number of participants in the 'National Defense Lawyers,' a voluntary citizen group hoping to save President Yoon and have him return to office as soon as possible, seems likely to soon exceed 100,000."
On the 8th, Lawyer Seok posted on Facebook under the title 'News from the President's National Defense Lawyers,' saying, "Despite being the sitting president, he is currently imprisoned due to the unjust forces' accusations of rebellion and impeachment schemes." On the 1st, he announced the recruitment of the 'National Defense Lawyers for President Yoon,' mainly composed of citizens and youth, stating, "The group will be led by ordinary citizens and youth nationwide, not lawyers, with the goal of launching in mid-February."
Lawyer Seok said, "Participation from people in their 20s and 30s, as well as the previously indifferent 40s age group, has been explosive," adding, "As the appointed leader, I am extremely grateful and consider this a miraculous event." He also mentioned, "The National Defense Lawyers will hold their inauguration ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, at Cheonggye Square, the site of President Yoon's first campaign rally as a presidential candidate," and requested, "Anyone who has joined is welcome to attend; however, I hope the front seats at the venue can be reserved for the 20s and 30s youth who now recognize the emergency martial law as an enlightenment decree and have awakened to the country's reality."
The 'National Defense Lawyers' also includes Jeon Han-gil, a Korean history instructor who claims the emergency martial law was an enlightenment decree. After Jeon was reported to the civic group Judicial Justice Citizens' Action (Sasehaeng) on charges of inciting rebellion and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, the National Defense Lawyers responded by threatening to file a false accusation suit against the head of Sasehaeng. They also plan to provide legal support for Instructor Jeon.
President Yoon, who was arrested and indicted on charges of leading a rebellion on the 26th of last month, is scheduled for his first pretrial hearing on the 20th of this month. His defense team includes former Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairman Kim Hong-il, former Secretary-General of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council Seok Dong-hyun, and former Daegu High Prosecutor General Yoon Gap-geun. Recently, former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn, who has continuously raised allegations of election fraud, has also joined the team.
