A New Living Space for Youth... Supply Project Progressing Smoothly
Winning Design by Joo Woo Architects Office and YPEM Architects Office
Pohang City has selected the winning design for the Youth Stepping Stone Housing architectural design competition.
The city chose the work of Joo Woo Architects Office (CEO Kim Jong-beom) and YPEM Architects Office (CEO Chae Soon-hwa) as the final winner of the ‘Jangseong-dong Youth Stepping Stone Housing Construction’ architectural design competition.
The winning design proposes a community cube concept for single-person household youths, suggesting a ‘Harmony - Encounter Space’ and designing various types of units considering the needs of young people.
In particular, the ‘Harmony Space’ was highly evaluated for planning a pleasant residential environment by linking shared offices, a gym, and encounter spaces as the central point of the community space to encourage communication among residents, with south-facing sunlight and an open view to the north.
The city plans to construct and supply 22 units of Jangseong-dong Youth Stepping Stone Housing, with a total floor area of 900㎡ and four above-ground floors, aiming to start construction in September in Jangseong-dong.
The Youth Stepping Stone Housing is expected to provide stable living spaces for young people, alleviate housing cost burdens, and establish a foundation for settling in Pohang.
A Pohang city official stated, “We hope that the Youth Stepping Stone Housing will become a new opportunity for more young people and a stepping stone to grow together with Pohang.”
