"Negotiations Would Be Neither Wise Nor Honorable"
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, expressed a negative stance on negotiating with the United States.
On the 7th (local time), according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency, Ayatollah Khamenei attended an Air Force commanders' event held in Tehran and said, "Negotiating with the United States will not solve any problems," adding, "Experience is the proof."
He referred to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) made between Iran and the West, including the United States and Europe, which the Donald Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from in 2018, pointing out that "the United States did not abide by the agreement."
He continued, "The current person in office is the one who broke that agreement," and added, "Do not allow that government to lie to us that various issues will be resolved at the negotiating table."
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized, "We should not negotiate with such a government," and said, "Negotiations would be neither wise nor honorable."
Earlier, President Trump, after his re-election, took out the pressure card of imposing various economic sanctions to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
The day before, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions for the first time since the start of the Trump administration's second term, stating, "We are sanctioning an international network that enabled the export of hundreds of millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil worth hundreds of millions of dollars to China."
Meanwhile, on the 5th, President Trump stated, "Media reports that the United States will cooperate with Israel to shatter Iran are greatly exaggerated," and said, "I prefer a 'verified nuclear peace agreement.'" He added, "A verified nuclear peace agreement will allow Iran to grow and prosper peacefully."
