A Blessing for Jeju, Where Births Have Dropped 41% in 10 Years
A set of naturally conceived triplets, a probability of only 1 in 10,000, was born in Jeju.
On the 7th, Jeju Province announced that on the 3rd, female triplets were born at an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Jeju City. The same-age couple Park Minji (26) and Lim Hyunjun (26) named the triplets 'Goun', 'Uri', and 'Nara'. The couple achieved the miracle of naturally conceiving and giving birth to three babies at once in their first delivery. The triplets were born two months earlier than the expected due date in April. Because of this, they will stay in incubators until the end of this month before returning to their family.

Kim Aesook, Jeju Province Deputy Governor for Political Affairs, visited the hospital where the mother is hospitalized on the 7th and encouraged, "In this era of low birth rates, the birth of triplets is a great blessing and fortune," adding, "I hope you raise the children healthily and happily."
Natural triplet pregnancies occur in 1 out of 10,000 cases. Twin pregnancies occur in 1 out of 100 cases. With the miraculous birth of the triplets, this family is expected to receive support funds exceeding 100 million won from Jeju Province and the government.
First, Jeju Province will provide childcare support funds of 25 million won according to the ordinance. 5 million won for the first child, and 10 million won each for the second and third children. The amount will be paid in installments over five years in cash. Additionally, 400,000 won for postpartum care and 100,000 won for postpartum herbal medicine for the mother will be supported.
The government will support them with 8 million won in First Meeting Use Vouchers via the National Happiness Card. 2 million won for the first child, and 3 million won each for the second and third children. Parental benefits will be provided up to 24 months. For the first 12 months, 1 million won per month, and from 13 to 24 months, 500,000 won per month will be supported. Each child will receive 18 million won, totaling 54 million won. Additionally, child allowances of 100,000 won per month will be paid until 96 months. Each child will receive 9.6 million won, totaling 28.8 million won. They will also receive benefits such as childcare services and rental of childbirth and childcare supplies.
Deputy Governor Kim Aesook emphasized, "We will continue to discover Jeju-type low birth rate crisis response policies that can reduce the economic burden of raising children and increase the birth rate." The number of births in Jeju decreased by 41% over 10 years, from 5,526 in 2014 to 3,222 in 2023.
