"Jeon Hangil Accused of 'Inciting Rebellion': 'Democratic Party Seems Desperate as Approval Ratings Drop'"

"Intended Only to Convey the Will of the People, Not to Occupy the Constitutional Court"

Civil service exam Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil recently responded to being accused of 'inciting rebellion' by the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "It seems they are desperate as President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating rises and the Democratic Party's support keeps falling."

On the 8th, Jeon said on the community board of his YouTube channel 'Kkotboda Jeon Han-gil', "In some polls, President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating exceeded 50%. Does that mean more than 50% of the Korean people are all collaborators in rebellion?"

Earlier, on the 1st, Jeon took the stage at an anti-impeachment rally for President Yoon Suk-yeol held in Busan, stating, "We will not accept the judgment of unjust judges," and "The people will sweep the Constitutional Court." In response, the Democratic Party announced plans to file charges against Jeon for "inciting rebellion and instigating riots against the Western District Court."

Regarding this, Jeon explained, "The Democratic Party says they will accuse me of inciting rebellion. If you watch the entire 'Busan rally' video, you will understand the context. Saying 'we will sweep the Constitutional Court' does not mean occupying it by force, but rather conveying the energy and will of the anti-impeachment citizens to the constitutional judges like a storm," and asked, "Why is this inciting rebellion?" He also strongly denied accusations of promoting violence, saying, "As you can see in the video 'Appeal to the 2030 Generation' on this channel, I absolutely opposed violence regarding the Western District Court incident."

Jeon wrote, "There should be no violence going forward," and added, "If violent incidents occur again, all the peaceful rallies we have held so far will be discredited."

The civic group 'Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice' filed charges against Jeon for inciting rebellion and defamation by spreading false information in violation of the Information and Communications Network Act. Subsequently, Kim Yong-won, standing commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, said, "Never be intimidated or scared. Although I am a public official as a standing commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, I will gladly provide free legal defense." Providing free legal defense as a public official violates Article 10 of the National Human Rights Commission Act, which prohibits holding concurrent positions.
