Former Ulsan Mayor Song Cheol-ho, who was indicted on bribery charges, was acquitted in the first trial.
On the 7th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Ulsan District Court (Chief Judge Lee Daero) acquitted former Mayor Song, who was tried for pre-bribery and violation of the Political Funds Act.
Former Mayor Song was indicted on charges of receiving 20 million won from local used car businessman Mr. A at his election office in early June 2018. However, the court ruled that there was no evidence of money exchanging hands between former Mayor Song and businessman Mr. A.
The court stated, "The election office was an open space where many people came and went, and no one witnessed the defendants exchanging money," adding, "At the time, candidate Song was leading his opponent by more than 20%, so there seemed to be no reason to risk his political career by accepting bribes."
