Establishing a Comprehensive Support System

Children born in Haenam-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Myung Hyun-kwan) receive a total of 91,560,000 KRW in support before reaching adulthood at age 18.

According to the county on the 7th, starting this year, children born in 2024 will receive a "Basic Birth Allowance" from the time they turn one year old. Haenam has established a robust support system that covers everything from childbirth to childcare and education, making it an ideal place to have and raise children.

First, when a child is born, a "First Meeting Voucher" is provided. In addition, newborn childcare expenses are provided in installments for up to 24 months.

The total amount of newborn childcare expenses is 3.2 million KRW for the first child, 3.7 million KRW for the second, 6.2 million KRW for the third, and 7.4 million KRW for the fourth child or more. Regardless of income level, the county also provides 90,000 KRW per month for up to 24 months, totaling 2.16 million KRW, to help purchase diapers.

From ages 0 to 1, parents receive a monthly allowance of 1.2 million KRW and 600,000 KRW respectively for two years, totaling 18 million KRW, when caring for their child at home. For children aged 2 and above, a home care allowance of 100,000 KRW per month is provided until the child turns seven and enters school.

From age one, the Jeonnam Province Basic Birth Allowance is provided. If the monthly allowance of 200,000 KRW is received until the child turns 18, the total amount reaches 43.2 million KRW. Additionally, a child allowance of 100,000 KRW per month is given until age seven, and from ages 8 to 13, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education provides a monthly student education allowance of 100,000 KRW.

The county expects that the payment of the Basic Birth Allowance will create a more comprehensive support roadmap covering the entire period from birth to adulthood, and plans to reduce the economic burden on families through seamless childcare support.

Governor Myung Hyun-kwan said, "This year, we will further strengthen policies for childbirth and childcare to make Haenam a better place to have and raise children, overcome the low birthrate crisis, and actively respond to population decline."
