Claims Can Be Filed Within Three Years from the Date of the Accident
Gochang County in North Jeolla Province is expanding the coverage amounts for certain items under its resident safety insurance.
According to the county on the 7th, the resident safety insurance is a system in which the county directly enters into the insurance contract and bears the cost, providing compensation to residents who suffer damages from disasters and safety accidents that occur in daily life.
All residents registered in the county (including registered foreigners) are automatically enrolled without separate application, and claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident.
Additionally, residents are eligible for coverage regardless of where the accident occurred, as long as they were residents at the time of the incident, and the insurance offers overlapping coverage regardless of other policies.
Notably, this year, the coverage amounts have been increased for eight out of twenty-two insurance items. The coverage includes up to 30 million KRW for the following: death from natural disasters, disability or death from injuries due to explosion, fire, or collapse, disability or death from injuries while using public transportation, and medical expenses for injuries from traffic accidents in school zones.
For injuries from violent crimes and deaths from social disasters, coverage is provided up to 20 million KRW. New coverage for disability or death from injuries caused by hit-and-run or uninsured vehicles has also been added, creating an institutional mechanism to provide substantial support for residents facing unexpected accidents.
All residents who have suffered damages from disasters, accidents, or crimes can inquire about and claim compensation by submitting relevant supporting documents (such as the claim form and accident certificate) to the Citizen Safety Mutual Aid Project's dedicated accident processing desk at the Korea Local Finance Association. According to Article 29 of the Citizen Safety Mutual Aid Rules, the right to claim insurance benefits expires if not exercised within three years.
County Governor Sim Deokseop said, "We will strive to ensure the early stabilization of life and improvement of welfare for residents affected by various disasters and safety accidents in daily life, to create a vibrant and happy Gochang for all residents."
