Applications for the 2025 Paddy Field Crop Diversification Support Project Open Until April 11
Yeongju City Supports Farmers to Stabilize Rice Prices and Expand Alternative Crop Cultivation
Yeongju City (Mayor Park Nam-seo) announced on the 7th that it will accept applications for the ‘2025 Paddy Field Crop Diversification Support Project’ until April 11 to regulate rice supply and stabilize rice prices by expanding the conversion of paddy fields to other crops.
This project was established to induce the cultivation of crops other than rice in paddy fields, control rice production, and support farmers in creating new sources of income.
Eligible applicants are farmers or agricultural corporations registered as agricultural management entities who cultivate other crops this year in paddy fields where rice was grown the previous year. However, farmland that has received the paddy field crop diversification support project after 2025 is excluded from the one-time per plot limit.
Supported crop categories include legumes, general crops (corn, sesame, carrots, etc.), forage crops, and perennial crops, with priority given to farmers cultivating legumes such as paddy field soybeans. Crops such as radish, napa cabbage, chili peppers, green onions, garlic, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, flowers, turf, and landscaping trees are excluded from support.
The project covers an area of 50 hectares, and a support amount of 1 million KRW per hectare is provided when cultivating eligible crops in paddy fields.
Farmers wishing to apply can visit the administrative welfare centers in their farmland’s town, township, or neighborhood by April 11 to submit their applications.
A Yeongju City official stated, “The paddy field crop diversification support project is an important policy aimed at resolving imbalances in rice supply and demand and establishing a foundation for improving food self-sufficiency through the expansion of food crop cultivation. We hope that farmers actively participate to reduce rice cultivation areas and that this, in connection with the rice cultivation area adjustment system, will help stabilize rice prices and increase farm income.”
