Child Household Organization and Storage, Community Garden Cultivation, and Intellectual Disability Craft Program Selected
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Shin Chang-ho) announced on the 7th that it held the 'BMC Housing Welfare Project Best Practice Competition' and selected outstanding projects.
This competition was organized to share excellent cases and achievements of housing welfare projects promoted by nine welfare centers located in permanent rental apartments managed by BMC.
The competition introduced various outstanding cases submitted by nine institutions, including a cooking class to alleviate loneliness among adult men (Sasang-gu Hakjang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center), disaster safety response activities centered on floor representatives in apartments (Yeongdo-gu Jeolyeong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center), and housing welfare improvement programs such as house repair, dementia, and health management through monthly resident communication day booth operations (Saha-gu Molundae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center).
As a result of the recruitment, a total of three projects were selected as outstanding cases through evaluation based on execution performance and potential for expansion.
▲The grand prize was awarded to the intellectual disability empowerment program conducted by Saha-gu Dadae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. The program was highly evaluated for enabling intellectually disabled individuals, who mostly stay at home, to communicate and integrate with neighbors by participating once or twice a month in pottery classes making mugs, plates, and bowls, as well as events making detergent, bread, and rice cakes at the welfare center.
▲The excellence award went to the healing agriculture project 'Daman-gol Garden' by Haeundae-gu Banseok Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. A community garden was created within Bansong rental apartments where residents directly planted and managed flowers and crops, forming a community through sharing events after producing bitter melon tea and natural loofah from the garden.
▲The encouragement award was given to the child household organizing and storage service project 'Kkum-ae (愛) Space' by Saha-gu Dusong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. A team of organizing and storage experts visited child households living in rental housing to provide storage items and educate on organizing and storage methods, contributing to improving the children's living environment.
The three finally selected projects will have their budgets expanded this year.
A welfare center official who participated in the event said, “It was a meaningful occasion to share various housing welfare programs and achievements considering the characteristics of residents by region and to gain new project ideas.”
Shin Chang-ho, president of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, said, “We plan to promote housing welfare projects worth about 900 million KRW this year as well, and we ask for the active cooperation of welfare centers,” adding, “BMC will make multifaceted efforts to fulfill its social responsibility as a specialized housing welfare institution.”
