As the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games approach, Professor Seokyung Deok from Sungshin Women's University has argued that we must prepare for China's cultural engineering efforts.


On the 7th, Professor Seokyung stated on Facebook, "Every time a major global sporting event is held in China, Korean culture is promoted as if it were Chinese culture, causing constant controversy."

At the recent Hangzhou Asian Games, it became an issue that the kimchi served at the restaurants in the main media center and media village used by the press was labeled as 'pao cai' (泡菜).


Additionally, hanbok appeared during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics. In the promotional video for the Winter Olympics, dancers wearing hanbok were shown dancing and spinning sangmo hats, which sparked controversy. The short track film "Fly, Light on the Ice," produced with support from the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau, also depicted Korean athletes as "cheating kings."


Professor Seokyung emphasized, "We must closely monitor what China might do again during this Harbin Winter Asian Games."


He also said, "Cheering for Korean athletes is important, but if you discover any instances of distortion of Korean culture and history, please report them. We will make sure to correct any inaccuracies."
