Awarded Top 'Leadership A' Rating
Received Highest Ratings from Global ESG Evaluators Such as CDP and MSCI
Chairman Ham Young-joo: "We Will Solidify Our Status as a Leading Global ESG Financial Institution through ESG Practices"
Hana Financial Group announced on the 7th that it has received the highest rating of 'Leadership A' in the climate change response category selected by the 2024 CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
CDP is a global disclosure project that requests information disclosure from major listed companies worldwide on key environmental issues such as climate change, forest resources, and water resources, and conducts analysis and evaluation based on this information. Along with MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) and DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Indices), it is recognized internationally as one of the most trusted and authoritative global sustainability evaluation indices.
In this evaluation, Hana Financial Group was recognized for excellence in governance, risk management, management strategy, carbon emission targets, and performance management systems for climate change response, achieving the 'Leadership A' rating, which is one grade higher than the previous rating.
Hana Financial Group has established reduction targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and has been transparently disclosing its carbon emissions annually. To achieve the reduction targets for financial emissions (carbon emissions from asset portfolios), it applies Hana Financial Group’s sustainable finance industry policy guide to high carbon-emission industries, managing assets in ESG-restricted and cautionary sectors.
In particular, Hana Financial Group continues to support strengthening ESG capabilities of Korean companies in the transition to a low-carbon economy by providing customized 'ESG consulting' free of charge to small and medium-sized enterprises struggling with ESG management. This includes carbon emission measurement, ESG management diagnosis, evaluation, and solution proposals.
Chairman Ham Young-joo stated, "The acquisition of the highest CDP rating is the result of internal and external recognition of Hana Financial Group’s consistent and sincere efforts in practicing ESG management to respond to the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality. Going forward, we will further solidify our status as a trusted global ESG-leading financial institution by disclosing the carbon neutrality goal implementation process more accurately and transparently to various stakeholders."
Meanwhile, Hana Financial Group achieved the highest 'AAA' rating in the 2024 ESG evaluation announced by the global ESG rating agency MSCI on the 28th of last month, ranking first worldwide in the banking industry sector as of the announcement date, surpassing leading global banks.
